The Painting.

The Penitent Magdalen is a common subject of Artemisia's work. While unsigned, it is typical of her style and the model appears to be the same several figures in paintings of her Florentine era, including the Naples Judith, with her small bow mouth and dimple.

The Artist's Life.

Artemisia's second son, Cristofano (named after painter Cristofano Alori, who was the godfather), was born on 9th November 1615. Her financial problems continued, having two young children, and a husband who seems to have preferred gambling to working.
