The Painting.

Another in Artemisia's Pozzuoli series features St. Januarius, Naples's popular patron saint who protected the city from volcanic eruptions of Mt. Vesuvius. The painting shows him miraculously surviving wild animal attack in the amphitheatre.

The Artist's Life.

There is evidence of Artemisia's collaboration with Viviano Codazzi, a Roman street painter who assisted with the landscape and architecture after Artemisia completed the characters. Soon after this Neapolitan era, Artemisia traveled to England.
